Traffic Chaos Expected
For This Holidays
Getting in and around
San José and surrounding
areas will be worse with
each day closer to
Christmas, as downtown
stores and regional
malls are starting to
become jam packed with
shoppers looking for the
ideal Christmas gift,
and taking a break from
work, as the central
government workers begin
their holiday vacation
at the close of business
Friday, as well as many
private businesses.
Vehicular traffic in the
downtown core and the
malls like Multiplaza
Escazú and Terra Mall,
will be ridiculous with
each day closer to
December 25.
Germán Marín, director
de Tránsito, said that
traffic problems in the
downtown core and the
malls will be a
nightmare for many,
mainly for the lack of
parking spaces and sheer
volume of traffic during
the holidays.
In addition, the
Ministerio de Obras
Públicas y Transportes (MOPT)
is considering removing
the vehicular
restrictions during the
last week of the month,
which decision could be
forthcoming from
ministra Karla González
any day.
Marín said that
currently his officers
are writing some 300
tickets daily for
violating the vehicular
restrictions, down from
an average of 600. |
