Panamanians to Go on
Strike
PANAMA - Panamanian
social organizations
will stage on September
4 a warning strike to
protest the high cost of
living and demand better
salaries, union leaders
announced.
The National Economic
and Social Rights Front
announced that the
protest is a previous
step before calling an
unlimited national
strike
The initiative is part
of a strategy designed
by The Coordinator of
Struggle for Life and
the People's Dignity to
force the government
into the negotiation
table.
The decision was taken
after the government'
refusal to respond to
the people's demands
written in a 15-point
document submitted to
the executive, trade
union leaders said.
The demands include
improving public health
and education systems,
attention to retired
people and measures to
protect the environment.
They also seek attention
to community problems,
establishing a national
energy policy and a
minimum fair salary
nationwide.
Last August 14 the
coordinator staged
protests in Panama City,
Veraguas, David and
Changuinola. |
