Bolivians Want
Constitution Vote
LA PAZ - Backing for the
new Constitution grows
Friday among several
Bolivian sectors who
favor a referendum for
its support.
After the convincing
victory of President Evo
Morales in the recent
revocation referendum,
many partisan groups of
the current change
process have demanded
the statesman call the
new Constitution to
consultation.
Edmundo Novillo,
activist of the
governing Movement
Towards Socialism and
chief of the Deputy
Chamber, stated that if
the government does not
achieve a pact with
opposition prefects, the
holding of that survey
would be inevitable.
"We have to use all our
strength for rational
and democratic dialogue,
but if that is not
possible, people will
understand that the
president must act in
representation of most
Bolivians to make
projects viable,"
Novillo said.
The Executive, he
stressed, will insist on
solving differences with
adversaries through
negotiation and would
not present in the
referendum a text
disapproved by the
opposition, without
reaching a consensus
before.
The legislator lamented
how some departmental
leaders do not
understand that the best
way to overcome
differences is through
talks.
These regional
politicians have boosted
radical measures like
strikes and road blocks.

the great number of
people that in the
country's eastern area
have supported the
program of changes
started in January 2006. |
