Panama Awaits Posada
Extradition
HAVANA - Panama's Vice
President and Foreign
Minister Samuel Lewis
Navarro stated that as
soon as the country
receives the Attorney
General Office's
request, procedures to
extradite terrorist Luis
Posada Carriles will
begin, Granma daily
reported Thursday.
Lewis told Critica
newspaper, with largest
distribution in that
Central American nation,
that the Judiciary Body
has not demanded
Posada's extradition,
and the Foreign Affairs
Ministry must receive
that request to
undertake procedures and
return the murderer to
Panama.
Lewis Navarro said that
once that procedure
concludes, the country
will demand the
extradition of the
terrorist and his
accomplices, who were
pardoned by ex President
Mireya Moscoso in August
2004.
The Panamanian Justice
Supreme Court canceled
those pardons some
months ago, the
publication recalls.
"Posada must return
Panama to serve in
prison, after conspiring
to assassinate former
Cuban President Fidel
Castro on occasion of
the 10th Ibero-American
Summit held in Panama in
2000," the newspaper
states.
According to observers,
the Miami Mafia has a
network whose
representatives will try
to interfere in the
legal process.
Posada Carriles'
Attorney General Rogelio
Cruz recently told local
press that to transport
30-kg C4 explosives to
blow up an amphitheater
is not a crime, but a
political offense.
Posada Carriles' rap
sheet includes the
explosion in mid air of
a Cuban aircraft that
killed 73 passengers in
October 1976, among them
the Cuban youth fencing
