UN Launches Planet Earth International Year for Latin America
The United Nations on Wednesday launched Planet Earth International Year for Latin America and the Caribbean during a science seminar at the Brazilian congress.

Minister of Science and Technology Sergio Rezende, Minister of Environment Marina Silva, the country's top diplomat Celso Amorim and UN representatives attended the opening ceremony.

A photo and picture exposition on Earth protection was also opened as part of the event.

The Planet Earth International Year seeks to boost the sciences' potential for building a safer, healthier and more sustainable society.
