Central America to
Surpass EU Health
Demands
Central America will
have to surpass
technical, sanitary and
competitive demands to
obtain the approval of
the European Union, the
spokesman of the
commercial area of the
communitarian block
Rupert Schlegelmilch
affirmed Wednesday.
The European team
participant in the third
round of negotiations in
this capital, considered
that such questions are
not as developed as they
hoped, while Central
America reintroduced a
proposal on the matter
from the second meeting
carried out in Brussels,
Belgium, in February of
2008.

Economy Vice Minister of

Hill indicated that
those representing Cent
Am try to assure an
effective access to the
European market of the
exports of the area.
Central American
representatives of
sugar, fish and
pharmaceutical sector
also express their hope
that negotiations take
into account the
asymmetries, that is to
say that they consider
the disadvantages of
this region against the
competing potentials in
the foreign block.
Mario Yarzebski, from
the sugar association of
Guatemala expressed that
the supply of the EU
reflects no opening
regarding sugar
products: we ask Europe
to open the access in
exchange for the opening
of our market, he
