Chefs of the hotel Ramada Herradura have been busy since 7:30pm Saturday night, mixing the ingredients that will be needed for today's Día Nacional del Gallopinto.

The event will take place in Paseo Colon beginning at 9:00am Sunday and the first 30.000 people will be able to taste the gallopinto prepared by the chefs.

Édgar Álvarez, head chef, told the press yesterday that this will be the first time that the traditional Costa Rican dish will be prepared for so many people in one sitting.

The chef said that his team will be starting their day today at 6:00am to ensure that the 2.000 kg of beans, 1.800 kg of rice and other ingredients like peppers, onions, culantro the salsa Lizano will all be fresh for today.

"We want it to have a good taste, as it is the food of the ticos", said Álvarez.

In addition to the pinto, the celebrations that run until 3:00pm will include cultural and recreational activities as well.
