Panama Unions,
Government to Resume
Talks
Trade union and social
organizations of Panama
reiterated Wednesday
their will to resume
dialogue with the
government to find
solutions to the
people´s more serious
problems.
That posture was
ratified in a letter to
the People's Defender,
Ricardo Vargas,
published by Genaro
Lopez, general secretary
of the construction
workers´ trade union.
Lopez, a leader of the
National Front of
Defense for Economic and
Social Rights (FRENADESO),
also ratified a list of
10 popular demands,
among them a general
increase of salaries and
to stop the growing cost
of life.
The talks have been
paralyzed for a month,
after the government's
representatives
abandoned the dialogue
promoted by the People's
Defender Office after
the intense social
protests of February.
The authorities insist
on continuing the
negotiations in the
National Agreement
Table, an organization
with the participation
of other sectors, such
as the enterprise trade
unions.
"On our part, we
reiterate our firm will
of finding paths to a
frank and real dialogue
that allows offering
solutions to the
population's more urgent
problems, Lopez said in
the letter.
