Volcán Arenal Shows Off!
The volcán Arenal, one of the most visited tourist attraction, was the centre of admiration by tourists and placed authorities on alert with its eruption yesterday.

The eruption began at 10:12am along the west-southwest face of the colossus and was of short duration, according to the Observatorio Vulcanológico and the Sismológico de Costa Rica (Ovsicori) y la Red Sismológica Nacional (RSN).

The accumulation of lava in the cone spiraled down the volcano with sits at 1.000 metres above seal level.

Vulcanologist, Gerardo Soto, explained that the volcano continually spews out lava, however, a much of it remains in the cone and forms protuberances.

Yesterday, one of the protuberances broke free, explained Soto who is stationed at the Observatorio Sismológico y Vulcanológico de Arenal-Miravalles del ICE, located in cerro Chiripa, in Tilarán.

The Ovsicori and the RSN informed that seismic activity increased for minutes while the volcano spewed but then returned to normal and will be carrying out flyovers of the volcano to observe the quantity of material that descended and analyze the possible consequences.
