Police Official Sold
Police Uniforms To
Criminals
A member of the Fuerza
Pública (police) is
being investigated by
the Ministerio de
Seguridad (MSP) for
supplying criminals with
police issued uniforms.
According to the
preliminary report, for
a modest sum of money,
the officer who was not
identified to the press,
sold the police uniforms
to a group of criminals.
The situation came to
light when an
undocumented Colombian
and Nicaraguan national
were detained in the
area of Cariari de
Pococí, Limón, who were
found to be moving about
the town, dressed in
police uniform,
including carrying a
sidearm.
The two men had recently
arrived in Costa Rica
and had several other
uniforms in a bag.
The men were caught when
"real" police officers
saw the strange fellow
officers and began to
ask questions. Their
accent gave them away
and when asked for
identification, there
was none available.
The impostors had break
in tools in one of the
bags they carried,
authorities suspecting
that they were using the
guise of a police
official for easy access
to homes in the area. |
