Light Posts Removed on
General Cañas
The 900 metre stretch of
the autopista General
Cañas from the toll
booths to the traffic
lights before the
airport is now in the
dark as crews of the
Compañía Nacional de
Fuerza y Luz (CNFL)
yesterday removed 26
light poles that
illuminated the highway.
The removal was from an
order of the Aviación
Civil as it affected
airplanes landing on the
runway that almost
begins at the edge of
the highway.
The order was signed by
the director of the
Consejo Técnico de
Aviación Civil and who
is also the viceministra
de Transportes, Viviana
Martín, who explained
that motive is
aeronautical security
and international norms
that demand the removal
of any obstacle that
could affect the landing
and take off of
airplanes.
"The strong winds could
mean airplanes,
especially the large
ones, have to make
maneuvers and the
closeness of the light
posts could affect the
pilots actions", said
Martín.
The vice-minister
assures that a number of
airlines, particularly
Iberia that now lands
the largest aircraft at
the airport, have
expressed their
discontent about the
light posts.
Now, it will be up to
the CNFL to figure how
to light the section of
the highway. |
