Approves 36 Articles
The third and definitive
discussion of the
project for the
Venezuelan
constitutional reform in
the Parliament shows 36
articles approved up to
now, in a process that
started on October 16.
According to Venezuelan
National Assembly
reports, debates on
Friday resulted in
addition of 13 articles
to those already
approved by the
legislature, and there
are 25 others yet to be
submittd for approval.
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez proposed 33
of the articles in his
initiative of a
constitutional reform,
the Joint
Parliamentarian
Commission added 25,
based on the opinion of
diverse sectors in the
country, and in the
framework of the
Assembly plenary's
analysis, Deputy Carlos
Escarra suggested three
others that were added
later, for a total of 61
that are subject to
changes.
According to the
progress of discussions,
the Parliament is
expected to conclude
discussing the proposal
before the present month
ends, for its approval
to that level and later
presentation to the
National Electoral
Council.
That authority has a
period of 30 days for
the call and the
approval of a referendum
on the bill for
constitutional changes.
Nevertheless, the
electoral power has
already began technical
preparations for the
referendum, based on a
register with more than
16 million Venezuelans.
