ICE and BCR Join Forces
A small Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) branch was inaugurated inside the offices of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) in Pavas in a plan for the state bank and state agency to work together to better customer service.

The "micro" bank will attend to ICE customer services like paying their telephone and other utility bills, making deposits for services, cheque cahsing and bank transfers.

However, payments for services has to be in cash. Customers wanting to pay they telephone bills or deposit for services with credit cards will have to use the adjoining window operated by ICE.

The trial is being held at the Pavas office and will be expanded to all ICE agencies in the near future.

In turn, the BCR has provided ICE space in its Multiplaza Escazú branch for a window for ICE for transactions with the utility, like paying bills, purchasing new telephone lines, consultations, etc. The ICE micro agency within the BCR branch will operate 11:00am and 6:00pm.
