Costa Rica Olympic
Chief Charged With Fraud
The former Costa Rica
Olympic Committee (CON)
member has accused CON's
president, Jorge Nery
Carvajal, of 37 counts
of fraud, one count of
using a forged document
and one count of
misadministration.
The accuser, Danny
Valverde, presented a
seven-page document of
charges and six volumes
of documents in evidence
to the Ministerio
Público.
Valverde accuses
Carvajal of ordering
subordinates to forge 31
invoices claiming for
courses funded by
international bodies.
Six of these were paid
by Solidarity
International, a body
which sends money to
Olympic Committees
across the world to pay
for courses and award
athletic scholarships.
These courses were
swimming, fencing, judo,
wrestling and
taekwon-Do.
CON officer Edwin Suarez
told media that Carvajal
had not yet received the
substance of the charges
and so will not comment. |
