Bus crash kills 15 in
southern Peru
A tourist bus from
Colombia fell into a
river in the southern
Peruvian region of
Apurimac Saturday,
killing at least 15
passengers, local police
said.
The bus carrying 37
Colombian tourists
seemed to have lost
control before crashing
into the Pachachaca
River, killing 15 of
them instantly, police
said.
A passenger who was
injured told police that
the bus was speeding and
plunged into the river
at a curved section.
On the same day,
Peruvian President Alan
Garcia requested local
authorities to try their
best to rescue the
injured. He also briefed
his Colombian
counterpart Alvaro Uribe
on the accident and
rescue work. |
