Guatemala May Lead
Caribbean States
Guatemala Foreign
Affairs Vice Minister
Luis Fernando Andrade
has been proposed as
General Secretary of the
Caribbean States
Association (ACS).
Andrade is deeply
experienced in regional
integration issues and
knows the ACS work
closely, reported a
source from the foreign
ministry.
The Organization's new
general secretary will
be elected on January 25
in Panama and will
substitute the Dominican
Ruben Arturo Silié in
the post.
The Association was
created 13 years ago in
Cartagena de Indias,
Colombia and among its
main contributions
appear that it has
managed to achieve
rapprochement between
insular countries and
those with coasts on the
Caribbean.
At this moment the
organization is made up
of Antigua and Barbuda,
Bahamas, Barbados,
Belize, Colombia, Costa
Rica, Cuba, Dominica, El
Salvador, Grenada,
Guyana, Guatemala,
Haiti, Honduras,
Jamaica, Mexico,
Nicaragua, Panama,
Dominican Republic y
Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Saint Lucia, Saint
Vincent and the
Grenadines, Surinam,
Trinidad and Tobago ad
Venezuela also complete
the group.
There are 25 countries
and three associated
members in total with a
population of 227
million of inhabitants. |
