Colombia, Ecuador,
Venezuela Begin Gas
Pipeline Talks
Colombia, Ecuador and
Venezuela Wednesday
began talks on creating
a Trans-Andean natural
gas pipeline, Ecuador's
Mines and Petroleum
Ministry said in a
statement.
They wish to construct a
ring of pipelines
connecting the three
nations to allow them to
use and trade natural
gas. Venezuela will be
Ecuador's main supplier.
A work timetable for a
three-nation committee
was approved during
Wednesday's meeting in
Ecuador's capital,
Quito.
They also named
delegations for the next
committee meeting to be
held on Dec. 10 in Quito
and formed technical
committees to take care
of the logistics of the
project and the
financing of feasibility
studies.
Ecuador has also shown
interest in starting a
project to explore
natural gas in the Gulf
of Guayaquil, off the
coast of Ecuador.
It is the first meeting
convened after Ecuador's
Mines and Petroleum
Minister Galo Chiriboga
signed the preliminary
accords on a natural gas
connection project on
Oct. 19 in Colombia's
capital Bogota.
The Oct. 19 document was
a follow-up to an Oct.
12 memorandum of
understanding signed by
the presidents of
Colombia and Venezuela,
Alvaro Uribe and Hugo
Chavez. |
