OIJ on Alert For Rise in
Home Invasions
The director of the
Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ),
Jorge Rojas, is calling
an alert in the number
of house invasions
notwithstanding that the
police organization
broke one of the better
equipped and effective
gang committing home
invasions.
The OIJ records 230 home
invasions this year, a
number that has
officials concerned.
Recent police action in
San Juan de Desamparados
and Alajuelita ended
with the capture of 4
men and woman believed
to be part of gang that
has been responsible for
a number of home
invasions and according
to the oIJ, is well
equipped to carry out
the crimes.
Three of the captured
men, identified by their
last names, Fonseca,
Abarca and Madrigal, are
behind bars waiting out
a 2 month preventive
detention imposed by a
judge, while a fourth
man, identified as
Viales, will be sitting
out the next five
months.
The woman, identified by
her last name Ramirez,
is free on bail.
According to police,
this group was well
organized and effective
in their home invasions,
using ski masks, bullet
proof vests and heavy
fire power, dressed
totally in black and
using mobile radios
scanning police
frequencies as part of
their tools.
The OIJ is still on the
trail of several other
members of the gang, who
have been fully
identified but not been
able to locate.
