Chile Sends Humanitarian
Aid to Central America
The Chilean Government
announced on Monday the
sending of a first of
three planes carrying
humanitarian aid to
Central American
countries hit by bad
weather.
Minister of Interior
Belisario Velasco said
this first plane was
bound for Nicaragua,
where Hurricane Felix
left over 100 people
dead and 200,000
victims.
He added that a second
plane, bound for Mexico,
will take off on
Wednesday to help
thousands of victims in
the states of Chiapas
and Tabasco.
The third cargo-loaded
plane is scheduled to
arrive to the Dominican
Republic Saturday, where
Storm Noel left 85
people dead and 48
disappeared, among other
damages to the country's
population and economy.
Regarding the usefulness
of these shipments,
Chile's Cabinet chief
said "some people need
more medicine and others
need more food."
