Cold Snap Ends
The cold snap that has
gripped the country for
the last couple of days
began to disappera
yesterday, according to
Rebeca Morera of the
Instituto Meteorológico
Nacional (IMN), the
national weather
service, making way for
normal condition during
the transition period.
Temperatures were on
average 5 degrees
Celsius lower than
normal for this time of
year, in some areas
getting down to 15C.
Morera said that the
cloud cover that
produced the cold snap
over the weekend is gone
and temperatures should
be back to normal.
It was so cold on Sunday
that in San José a
record for one of the
lowest temperature of
the year was recorded at
14.6 Celsius (58.8
Fahrenheit). The lowest
temperature for the year
was recorded last
February 8 when the
mercury dipped to 14.1
Celsius.
In cartago the
temperature hit a low of
12.1 Celsius (54F).
Normal temperatures in
the Central Valley are
around 28C in the day
and 22C at night.
The IMN predicted that
the start of the summer
or "dry" season would be
by November 15th, but
now is revising its
forecast, estimating
that it could be a week
late, by November 21.
The IMN is predicting
rain in the afternoon
for today and possibly
tomorrow for the Central
valley as well as the
Pacific North and
Central regions.
