Former Patient in
Nicaragua Walk
A man who has suffered
three major heart
attacks has walked
across Nicaragua to
raise money for charity.
Tony Pitt from
Herefordshire part of
team including Liverpool
MP Peter Kilfoyle which
raised us$63.000 for the
British Heart
Foundation.
Mr Pitt, who has done
charity work in
Nicaragua, said he
wanted to prove to
himself and others that
it was possible to
recover fully from a
heart attack.
The team walked 120
miles in temperatures of
around 90F (32C).
The idea for the walk
came to Mr Pitt during
his regular treks along
the Malvern Hills to get
fit. He said he also
wanted to help others
who had suffered heart
problems.
"I have been there
myself and know how
depressed and how black
things can look," he
said. "And at one point
when I was going through
rehab, a guy decided to
walk from Hereford to
Birmingham and that
inspired me."
Mr Pitt added that his
advice to cardiac
patients was to follow
the medical advice they
were given and take
support from the British
Heart Foundation.
"Go through the rehab
and really go for it
because it's all there
to be done and life is
sweet," he added. |
