Uruguay, Colombia Urge
Latin American
Integration
Uruguayan Foreign
Minister Reinaldo
Cargano and his
Colombian counterpart
Fernando Araujo signed a
joint communique on
Monday, as a call to
promote the integration
process of Latin America
through various
mechanisms.
The two sides said in
the communique that
Uruguay and Colombia
hope that all nations
concerned strengthen the
role of the Union of
South American Nations,
the Andean Community,
the South American
Common Market (Mercosur)
and the Latin American
Integration Association,
in order to promote the
integration of Latin
America.
In addition, the two
ministers said the
international community
should advocate fair
trade, urging the
continuation of efforts
to make the Doha Round
trade negotiations
achieve fruitful
results.
The two nations also
vowed to strengthen
cooperation in bilateral
trade and immigration,
combat illegal arms and
ammunition smuggling and
campaign against drugs.
