March To Raise Awareness
To Problems of Drunk
Driving
Traffic accidents have
changed the lives of a
number of families
during the past several
weeks, as deaths and
injuries from traffic
accidents rise. And
October to December are
statistically bloody
months.
For that reason a group
of Pavas residents have
decided to march to
raise the consciousness
of drivers and will be
in front of the Estadio
Nacional (national
stadium) in La Sabana
park to collect
signatures and push for
the new transit laws
that are stalled in the
legislative process.
The signature gathering
is being held on the
west face of the
stadium, across the
street of the
Telenoticias -
television channel 7 -
news desk.
Drunk drivers,
especially, are getting
away with causing or
being involved in
traffic accidents that
result in death or
injury and in most cases
not even a fine can be
applied.
The new traffic laws
proposes to increase
fines by up to 20 times
the current fines and
harsh penalties,
including jail, for
drunk and reckless
drivers.
