Peru Trusts Chile on Fujimori
Peruvian President, Alan Garcia, expressed confidence in a fair decision by the Chilean Supreme Court regarding the extradition of former president, Alberto Fujimori.

Asked about the imminent decree by Chilean Attorney General, Garcia said he expected the court "to do justice" and that "there would be a decision in favor of Peru."

The president did not give details or refer to press rumors according to which the extradition of Fujimori could embarrass the government and even affect its stability.

La Republica daily considers that the former president would be brought to Peru in about six months after the ruling of the prosecution and expected appeals by the defense.

According to procedures the former president if extradited for trial over genocide and other charges would arrive in Lima handcuffed and with a police guard.

The former attorney of Anti-Corruption, Ronald Gamara, said he trusted that Fujimori would be extradited but that the former president could claim Parliamentary status to persuade the Peruvian government to abort his delivery.
