Crater Endangers School Children
Parents of students of the Escuela María Reina, in Pavas, have been asking the school and the municipality to fill in the large crater, that has become a danger to all children, at the back of the school.

The crater is the result of the Municipalidad de San José stopping work on the school site when it found that the school did not have the necessary permits for the construction.

The work stoppage left a big hole and with coming of the rainy season, the hole filled with water, creating a large deep pool that parents fear that one of their children could accidentally fall in and drown.

The construction work is to install a sports field. The municipality says that the Ministerio de Eduación Pública (MEP) - Education ministry- did not obtain the necessary construction permits and though it will cooperate, it is clearly the responsibility of the MEP to remove the danger.

For now the Policía Municipal (municipal police) will be keeping an eye on the crater to ensure no accidents, as it will take more than a month to complete the work as the water was to be drained from the crater first,

The MEP announced lat Friday that it may close the school if the problem is not resolved by Monday.
