Midwifery Conference in Costa Rica
The "Birth Without Borders" midwifery conference will be held in San José this year. The conference is scheduled for May 23-27 and will be held at the La Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica (UNED) - State University of Distance Education - in Sabanilla, east of San José.

According to the midwiferytoadu.com website, the conference is being called very special "because we are working to have in attendance traditional midwives from the Central American countries, including Costa Rica and Mexico. Two full days will be dedicated to sharing with them. Though midwifery was decreed into non existence twenty years ago, a thriving movement still endures, and we want to share it with you. We also will hold a three-day doula workshop. You will learn about birth from an international perspective, especially that of Central and South America.

As always we plan to have a rich offering of classes in English and in Spanish, with some translated. We have a class on the Ecology of Birth that harmonizes with the conference setting in this beautiful country where so much of the land is set aside for preservation. We hope to rejuvenate the dreams you have for mothers and babies. You will make friends from all over the world."

Some of the speakers to attend the conference are: Ina May Gaskin, Robbie Davis-Floyd, Marsden Wagner and
Elizabeth Davis.

Each of the five days is broken into sessions, some in Spanish, some in English and some translated from English to Spanish. Cost varies depending on how many days one attends; for residents of the Caribbean and Latin America, one day costs $75, and attending all five days is $333.
