Gasoline Prices Keep Edging Up
The Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope) - the state
refinery and distributor of
gasoline products - has once
again asked for an increase in
the price of fuel.
This time, the Recope is asking
the Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep) for
a hike of ¢16 colones in the
price of a litre of super
gasoline, which when approved,
will go from the current ¢568 to
¢584 colones per litre.
The reason for the increase is
blamed on the rising price of
crude oil on international
markets which is now at us$90 a
barrel, activating the Recope
automatic formula to set
gasoline prices.
The price of regular and diesel
gasoline is staying put for now,
but an announcement for an
increase could be made in the
coming days.
The Aresep has fifteen working
days to make its decision and
then must be published in La
Gaceta within five working days,
effectively stalling the
increase at the pumps for almost
a month.
