Whopping Gas Hike Approved
Get ready to loosen your wallet
as more gasoline price hikes are
on the way, the latest approval
coming yesterday and will take
effect next week.
Earlier this week, the price of
regular and super gasolines
jumped ¢17 and ¢19 colones
respectively and Thursday the
Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep),
approved a hike of ¢12 colones
for diesel fuel.
Yesterday's approval will mean
an increase of a whopping ¢33
colones for regular which will
go from the current ¢459 to ¢492
colones per litre, and ¢34
colones increase for super,
which will see it go from the
current ¢483 to ¢517 colones per
litre.
The new prices will go in effect
the day following the
publication in the La Gaceta,
the official government
publication, which is bound to
publish the notice within five
working days. The expected date
for the increase at the pumps is
not later than next Saturday.
The price hikes are being blamed
on the cold North American
winter which has been pushing up
the price of crude oil on world
markets.
The last time gasoline prices
were over the ¢500 colones mark
was in January 09 of this year
when the price of super gasoline
was ¢516 and dropped to a low of
¢453 at the beginning of
February.
