Dengue Uncontrollable
in Honduras
Dengue is increasingly
ravaging Honduras,
despite measures adopted
by the Health Ministry,
with 7,715 cases of
classic dengue and
another 393 of its
haemorrhagic strain.
The growth in classic
strain has been of 1,000
cases per week, on
average. At least seven
people have died from
the haemorrhagic strain
so far.
Authorities have
declared a yellow alert
in the Metropolitan
Region and a green alert
in Olancho, La Paz and
El Paraiso departments.
Likelihood of a red
alert in the capital is
under study.
Several sectors, led by
the Health Ministry,
started actions to fight
the aedes aegypti, the
mosquito vector for
dengue, to be extended
for three weeks, said
National Dengue Program
Chief, Lenin Quezada. |
