Holiday Traffic Accident
Costs Live of Couple and
Their Youngest Child
Despite the warnings,
the increased patrols by
the Policía de Tránsito,
traffic accidents
continue to cost lives
on the roads, with the
latest major fatal
accident occurring late
Friday when three
children lost their
parents and a younger
brother.
The accident occurred
over the Quebrada
Chavarría bridge in
Desamparados de San
Mateo, Alajuela.
The children with riding
in the vehicle with
their parents and
grandparents, when
apparently the brakes
failed, as the vehicle
left the road and fell
into the creek, causing
the tragedy.
The grandparents also
survived the accident
when the family was
heading home from a trip
to the beach.
Camila, Matías y Diego
Borquéz Trautman were
treated at the medical
centre in nearby Orotina,
while grandparents, Hugo
Mario Borquéz Bustamante,
70, is in stable
condition at the CIMA
hospital and his wife,
María Isabel Corvalán
Mayne, 66, is recovering
at the Hospital México,
in San José.
Mauricio Alejandro
Borquéz Corvalán, 38,
his wife Paulina
Alejandra Trautmann
Trautmann, also 30, and
their two year old
child, Clemente Enrique
Borquéz Trautman, died
in the accident.
The family is from Chile
and living in Costa
Rica. The Chilean
ambassador to Costa
Rica, Germán Guerrero,
took custody of the
three surviving children
and are now living with
a Chilean family close
to the Borquéz
while the grandparents
recuperate.
The Policía de Tránsito
and the Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
are investigating the
accident as the bodies
of the three dead are
being kept at the
Medicatura Forense en
San Joaquín de Flores,
Heredia (coroner centre)
before being repatriated
to Chile, which is
expected this week. |
