Public Employees Yet To
Know Their Salary
Increase
Public sector workers
traditionally get their
salary increase on July
1, the second of two
increases given to all
public employees each
year.
And traditionally, the
government announces the
increase prior to July
1, taking effect on the
first pay day, July 15.
However, this year, the
increase has yet to be
announced and accourding
to Édgar Morales,
Secretary General of the
Asociación Nacional de
Empelados Públicos y
Privados (ANEP) - public
and private sector
employee union - the
news of the increase may
not come for another
week or two.
Regardless of when the
increase is announced,
salaries are increased
automatically beginning
July 1.
Public sector employees
got the news of their
increase early, when the
unions announced an
agreement with employers
to increase salaries by
5.1%.
A similar increase is
expected for public
sector workers.
