bid

launch her presidential
candidacy on July 19 in

reported.

-- Argentina's first
lady, Sen. Cristina
Fernandez de Kirchner,
is to launch her
presidential candidacy
on July 19 in La Plata
city, capital of Buenos
Aires province, local
press reported.
The Clarin and Pagina 12
daily newspapers Sunday
quoted government
spokesmen as saying "the
decision was taken this
week in a long dinner"
attended by current
Argentine President
Nestor Kirchner, his
wife Fernandez and
cabinet chief Alberto
Fernandez.
The reports said the
dinner goers decided
that Fernandez would be
a presidential candidate
and that her running
mate would come from the
Radical Civic Union (UCR),
the main opposition
party.
Among the most likely is
Julio Cobos, the
provincial governor of
Mendoza, who represents
part of a UCR internal
group known as "K
Radicals," analysts say.
Argentina's presidential
elections are set for
Oct. 28 and Kirchner's
presidency expires on
Dec. 10.
