US Coast Guard Seizes Costa Rica
Coke Boat
The US Coast Guard seized a
Costa Rican fishing boat packed
with 2.5 tonnes of cocaine
yesterday.
Three Costa Rican fishermen were
arrested in the seizure and
taken to the town of Puntarensas,
where they were handed over to
Costa Rican Coast Guard
authorities.
Tow Colombians also the boar
were arrested and remained in US
Coast Guard custody.
The fishing boat was located in
international waters and
suspected of trafficking in
drugs.
The operation was the latest in
a series of large drug seizures
off Costa Rica, where the US
Coast Guard regularly patrols
for narcotics shipments.
According to US authorities, US
and Costa Rican officials seized
a total of 23 tonnes of cocaine
in 2006.
