Cell Phone Sales Slow

Cell Phone Sales Slow
Monday morning, at 8:00am sharp, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) put on sale 340.000 GSM lines - 300.000 new and 40.000 of lines that were forfeited by their owners for lack of payment. However, sales have been less than expected.

As of 4:00pm yesterday, ICE reports only the activation of 10.130 lines although it has capacity to connect up to 10.000 lines daily.

According to ICE figures, Monday there were 2.686 activations, 3.483 on Tuesday and 3.961 yesterday.

Each day ICE does a tally of the activations for the day at 4:00pm.

83% of the activations were made by ICE employees at agencies around the country and the rest at more than 300 authorized retailers.

The expected lines just did not happen and ICE officials are not offering any explanations.
