Separated Twins Learning
To Walk Again
Costa Rica's
conjoined twins who were
successfully separated
last month at Lucile
Salter Packard
Children's Hospital at
Stanford are now
learning to walk on
their own during daily
physical therapy
sessions.
While they learned to
walk as one shortly
before their November
separation surgery, now
they are "learning to
walk as individuals,"
said hospital spokesman
Todd Kleinheinz.
Yurelia and Fiorella
Rocha-Arias, age 2, were
released from the
hospital Dec. 11 to stay
with family at the
nearby Ronald McDonald
house.
"The doctors are very
happy with their path
right now," Kleinheinz
said.
The girls are expected
to return to Costa Rica
after six to eight more
weeks of follow-up
treatment.
