Sandinistas Deny
Venezuelan
Government Funding of
Presidential Campaign
The Sandinista
government belied
earlier this week any
financial aid from the
Venezuelan government to
the National Liberation
Sandinista Front (FLSN)
during the past
presidential campaign
where Daniel Ortega won
the election, or the
existence of Venezuelan
advisors in Managua.
Marcel Granier, the CEO
of private TV channel
Radio Caracas Televisión
(RCTV), claimed Tuesday
in San Salvador that
President Ortega
received from his
Venezuelan counterpart
Hugo Chávez "electoral
advice and money, and
there is any type of
political and military
agents working on his
behalf."
During his interviews
with Salvadorian daily
newspapers Diario de Hoy
and Prensa Gráfica,
Granier said that the
Venezuelan government
provided funding to
Latin American
governments in line with
Chávez' policy.
"This is ludicrous. It
(the claim) just makes
no sense. Furthermore,
what this gentleman (Granier)
can know? said
