Guatemalan Youths Ask
Pact from Parties
The Youth for Guatemala
organization proposed on
Friday that political
parties involved in the
election campaign sign a
national pact
establishing the main
needs and aspirations of
the new generations.
The objective is to
commit those aspiring to
posts elected by the
people to promote
youth-oriented
development policies.
Leader of the
organization, Abner
Paredes, told Prensa
Latina they are not
offering the pact only
to presidential
candidates, but also to
those aspiring to
councils or municipality
governments.
We need an effective
response in favor of the
new generations from all
three State powers and
from local
administrations.
According to figures
provided by the National
Institute of Statistics,
over four million
Guatemalans are between
14 and 30 years old.
However, there are no
programs designed for
this sector of society,
noted Paredes.
On Monday the National
Pact for Youth is
expected to be signed by
candidates of the
National Unity of Hope
and the Guatemalan
National Revolutionary
Unity-Left Broad Front,
