Organizations Federation
announced on Thursday
that it would continue
the strike against
government audits of the
sector, to protest the
high cost of living in
the country.
We want immediate
answers and if we do not
get them, we will
continue on strike, the
guild's leader Edwin
Oliva said.
Teachers' leader Gustavo
Mejias said they would
not let auditors from
the National Audit
Office enter schools,
while the demands
presented months ago are
not met.
The teachers are
demanding that Education
Minister Marlon Breve
approve 5,000 new
positions, payment of
back salaries to some
4,000 teachers and
guaranteed social
security for retirees.
Yesterday teachers in
the 18 Honduran
departments held
informative assemblies
with students to explain
their demands to them.
They also said they
would support the
National Day of
Struggle, scheduled for
late August, against the
high cost of living, the
ruling violence in the
country and the
extensive institutional
corruption. |
