Nicaragua Snags Drug Traffickers
About 2 tons of cocaine have
been seized from Colombians and
a Guatemalan on board a speed
boat, 40 miles from the
Nicaraguan Pacific coast,
authorities reported on
Wednesday.
Official police spokesman Alonso
Sevilla told the local press the
consignment had 89 sacks of
around 44 pounds each.
The operation for arresting and
transferring the drug dealers to
the coast, which the police
called "Gladiator," started on
Monday night and lasted around
24 hours.
Sevilla identified the
Colombians as Francisco
Rodriguez, aged 50; Manuel Isaac
Lopez and Carlos Alberto
Serrano, both aged 30, and Jean
Renteria, 31 years old, while
the Guatemalan citizen s name is
Ramon Rodriguez, aged 30.
The police spokesman discarded
that the drug dealers arrested
on Tuesday in front of Masachapa
beach resort, 37 miles west from
Managua, are members of the
Mexican Sinaloa cartel, strongly
beaten by the National Police
during the last two weeks.
