Monday Is A Holiday
A reminder that tomorrow,
Monday, April 16, is a legal
holiday in Costa Rica and that
all government offices, agencies
and banks will be closed.
Most offices, businesses and a
number of retailers will also be
closed for business. Large
malls, like Multiplaza and San
Pedro Mall, will operate on
"Sunday" hours.
The holiday is to celebrate the
"Aniversario de la Batalla de
Rivas", honouring the heroic
efforts of young Juan Santamaría
whose actions repelled the
advancement of filibuster
William Walker and his
intentions to annex all of
Central America.
The holiday is celebrate on
April 11 each year, however, a
presidents decree two years ago
moves this holiday, along with
several others, to the following
Monday if it falls during the
week.
