Agreement With Private Security
To Combat Crime
As announced last week,
private security companies will
signing an agreement with the
Ministerio de Seguridad Pública,
as private security guards and
the Fuerza Pública (police)
unite to combat increasing
crime.
The agreement, which will later
also include the private banking
security force and a number of
large distributors around the
country, will be an alliance
with the police in patrolling
the streets.
Under the agreement, privaty
security guards can only report
incidents or suspicious activity
to police, who will investigate
and make the arrest. The private
security guards will not have
the power to arrest or assist
police in chases.
Private security will bring some
18.000 sets of eyes, along with
vehicles, motorcycles, guns and
communications equipment to
assistance of police in reducing
crime on the streets.
Private security guards who are
members of the Asociación
Nacional de Empresas de
Seguridad y Afines and the
Asociación Costarricense de
Empresas de Seguridad, which is
make up of some 18 different
companies.
It is important to note that
most of the private security
guards on watch outside of
private homes are not part of
this group.
