Rains Causing Problems Along Pacific
The Comisión Naciónal de Emergencias (CNE) has declared a "yellow" alert for the area known as the Vertiente del Pacifico due to the heavy rains during the last day.

All areas along the Pacific coast, from Guanacaste to Golfito, is being hard hit by rain that is common during the month of October. In San José it has practically rained for 48 hours, with several breaks in between. Rain has been coming down from a list mist to heavy downpours at times.

In Quepos CNE work crews are working continuously to repair the damaged dykes from the week earlier, while in Parrita shelters have been made ready in the event there is a need for evacuations.

In Buenos Aires de Puntarenas, heavy rain is causing all sorts of problems for the area, as the Ujarras aqueduct has completely collapsed.

However, notwithstanding all the rain and flooding during the past week, this year was the driest September in 30 years in several areas.

According to the Instituto Meteorologico Nacional  (Weather Bureau) - the weather experts, this is one of the changes brought about by the phenomenon known as El Niño, which would also account for an early arrival of the dry season to the  Guanacaste region
