Lower Inflation Index
The reduction in the prices of fuels directly influenced a drop in the inflation index in September, when it decreased by 0.16 percent.

This took the inter-annual inflation –October 2005 to September 2006– to 11.24, while last year it was 14.07 percent, the National Statistics and Census Bureau reported.

A negative variation in inflation had not been reported since October 2001, when it dropped 0.01 percent.

Economist Ronulfo Jimenez pointed out that in the coming months inflation will depend on the effects of the new monetary policy of the Central Bank, and not so much on external factors such as the price of oil.
