"Self Destructing Cedulas" Still
Being Investigated
In our story "Foreigners Affected By Faulty
Residency "Cédulas", yesterday
we reported how some 190 foreign
residents have had to return
their "residency cedulas"
that proves their legal stay in
the country., because the information
on the new document quickly
erases.
Following up on this report, our
investigative reporter has been
in contact with the manufacturer
of the cards - LaserCard
Corporation - who says that the
type of cards being and the
coating system used to protect
the cards is not what they
recommended.
The new cédula replaced the
booklet that had been in use for
some time, being more secure and
a lot more difficult to
duplicate.
Realizing that this story could
be touch some political nerves
as to how the us$2.6 million
dollars to buy the new system
was used, we will, however,
bring you all the details as we
confirm them.
