Costa Rican Online Casinos Face
Possible Regulation
The Costa Rican Electronic
Gambling Association is calling
for more government involvement
regarding the gambling business
that is taking place in Costa
Rica.
Eduardo Agami, the
organization’s president, is
concerned about the consequences
for online casinos based in
Costa Rica due to the closing of
online casinos around the world
because of the recent
legislation in the United
States.
"The case is between the Costa
Rican government and the U.S.
government. We believe that the
industry could be productive for
Costa Rica and should be
allowed. Here they need to
establish the limits",
Agami said.
His association will lobby the
Costa Rican government for
support for the online casinos
in the country to remain open.
Agami pointed out that there are
more than 200 other online
casinos still in operation. They
employ a total of 10,000 people
in Costa Rica, where the online
casino industry is unregulated.
According to Agami, the fate of
the online casino industry is in
the hands of Costa Rican
officials. He also said that
members of his association
planned to analyze the situation
and work out a plan to calm the
fears of online casino
employees, the clients and the
government.
Because Agami wants to work hard
to make the online casino
industry regulated and
accountable, Costa Rica might
soon have a fully regulated
industry where fans of the
online casinos can play without
fear.
This will be a major
accomplishment for Agami, his
association, Costa Rica, and
most importantly, the fans who
play at the online casinos based
in this Central American
country.
