Unique Micro-Organisms
A scientific team from the
University of Costa Rica
discovered unique
micro-organisms in the vicinity
of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano,
in the province of Guanacaste.
The environment where they were
found is extreme for life,
because of extremely high
temperatures, apparently lethal
acidity, and abundance of
sulfuric gases and potentially
toxic metals.
Because these are
the conditions believed to have
existed at the onset of life,
some 4 billion years ago, they
would be vital to understand the
origins of planet Earth.
