US to Train Latin American Military Again
The administration of President George W. Bush has shown its first hostile reaction to the advance of Latin American progressive movements by restarting the training of military forces in the region.

The recent triumphs of leftist governments in Latin America have made the White House carry on training troops from eleven Latin American countries and the Caribbean, according to USA Today daily.

The US official program will be implemented with discretion, with the White House expecting it to contribute to consolidating links with the States Washington calls allies.

The daily firstly referred to the Sandinista win in Nicaragua as one of the issues upsetting the US. It then indicated the Bush formula is not happy with the popular governments of Bolivia s Evo Morales nor Venezuela s Hugo Chavez.

Washington had banned military training in Latin America to pressurize regional countries to discharge US soldiers from war crime accusations, but the program was reactivated with an amendment presented by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in October.
