Chavez to Attend Ortega
Inauguration
Venezuela President Hugo Chavez
will attend the inauguration of
Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega
as president of Nicaragua in
January, diplomatic sources
confirmed Thursday.
Venezuelan Ambassador Miguel
Gomez told Prensa Latina that
Chavez would arrive in Managua
in the evening of January 9, or
on the 10th when the ceremony is
expected to be held.
He will arrive with a very good
delegation, said the diplomat
who did not rule out a possible
visit by Ortega to Caracas
before the inauguration.
The Sandinista leader won
Sunday´s elections over two
rightwing contenders, one of the
central left and another
independent.
Ortega´s triumph represents the
return of the Sandinista
National Liberation Front (FSLN)
to power after 16 years of
opposition and three consecutive
electoral failures.
