Government Will Respect Court
Decision Following Appeal
Against Giving Public Employees
Time Off To Watch the World Cup
The government said yesterday
that it would respect any
decision by the Constitutional
Court or Sala IV over the giving
public employees off the morning
of June 9, the day of the
opening games of the 2006 World
Cup between Costa Rica and
Germany.
Though most approve the
governments decision to give
public employees time off, one
person, a Sergio Fernández, made
a "recurso amparo" (an appeal)
to the Constitutional Court
against the waste of public
resources.
The Arias administration said
yesterday in a press release
that its intention was to allow
fans time to see the historic
game, especially since Costa
Rica will be opening the games.
The Constitutional Court press
office informed yesterday that
there is no date yet for when
the Court will hear the appeal
and render a decision.
