Most Common "Tico" Names
The great devotion to the Virgen
de los Ángeles, the patron saint
of Costa Rica, is reflected by
many Costa Ricans when naming
their children. And as such,
María de los Ángeles is the most
common women's followed by María
Isabel.
For men, Gerardo is the most
common name, followed by Juan
Carlos and Carlos Luis.
An interesting fact revealed by
the Registro Civil, is that
179.890 people have unique
names, names that are not
repeated in the country's
registry.
The longest and most unique name
on the record books is "Laura
Cristina de la Ascensión".
When it comes to last names,
according to the Registro Civil,
Rodríguez is the most common,
followed by Vargas, Jiménez,
Mora and Rojas. The shortest
last names have only two
letters- Re, Ro, Sa, Li, Ly, Wa,
To, Ja and Ma are all registered
last names, while the longest
last name on record is "De la
Goublaye de Menorval".
